COVID-19 Update:  Conditions of Entry for Competitions & Programs

Issued 23 December 2021

Dear Members,

Notwithstanding the most recent relaxing of Health Order restrictions in New South Wales that allows for community sport including local competition to return to 'normal' activities, the Tennis Macarthur Committee has taken the decision to require all players who enter and compete in Tennis Macarthur competitions and programs to adhere to the following guidelines until further notice:

  • Players aged 16 and over are fully vaccinated or have a medical exemption.
  • Players under 16 are not required to be vaccinated, however must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent/guardian who resides at the same place of residence. If the parent/guardian cannot attend, the player can attend with a vaccinated guardian/coach, provided the player resides with a vaccinated parent/guardian.

This decision is in keeping with the decision by Wests Group Macarthur to continue only permitting entry to its venues, including the Wests Tennis Club courts precinct, to those who are fully vaccinated or medically exempt as well as being consistent with Tennis NSW’ Covid safe policy restrictions relating to its endorsed and approved events and leagues (whether open or junior).

Most importantly Tennis Macarthur is committed to maintaining the health and safety of our sport for our players, volunteers and our community and we continue to encourage our membership to get vaccinated and receive a booster when eligible.

COVID-19 Update: Closure of Wests Tennis Courts - Suspension of Tennis Macarthur Competitions

Issued 16 July 2020

Dear Members,

Following advice from NSW Health that two patrons who recently visited Wests Campbelltown Leagues Club have tested positive to COVID-19, Wests Group has decided to close all its Clubs including the tennis courts at Leumeah for at least the next 7 days while tests and deep cleans are undertaken. A copy of Wests Media Release follows explaining the decision which has been made in the best interests of us all.

It follows that effective immediately Tennis Macarthur is suspending all its sanctioned competitions in keeping with the Wests decisions for at least the next 7 days and will remain so until it is determined safe to resume and NSW Health Advice is followed. The objective being to ensure our community remains healthy, and the significant risk of the virus spreading is minimised.

Inter District Competition

At this stage the Inter District Competition is going ahead, with the start date of all cups scheduled to commence on 26 July 2020, albeit should the Wests tennis courts remain closed alternative arrangements will be implemented. We will keep players involved informed as we get closer to the Competition start date.

We will be in touch when we have more information to share including with arrangements for resuming tennis. In the meantime please stay COVID Safe and follow the health guidelines

Yours in tennis

Update Regarding Tennis Macarthur Operations
Issued 19 June 2020

Dear Members,

I would like to thank you all for your support as we re-started tennis earlier this month. Our interim COVIDSafe Competitions were very well received and were a necessary step as we ease our way back to normality.

As you would know, the NSW State Government has continued to ease restrictions, and as a result I am pleased to inform you that we will be returning to our normal competitions in July. While this is a great step forward, there are still several guidelines which must remain in place to ensure we all do our part to look after the health and wellbeing of our community.

Conditions of Participation
Enclosed with this letter is a copy of the Tennis Macarthur Conditions of Participation (Updated 19 June 2020). All Members should be familiar with these conditions and ensure they always adhere to them. Importantly you should consider your individual situation noting that the COVID-19 virus can spread very quickly and result in very serious medical complications in some people. Like any activities, there are some inherent risks involved and by participating you are accepting of those risks.

Competition Update

With one exception noted below, new competition will commence as follows:

  • Tuesday Men’s Night Competition – 7 July (resumption of suspended Competition)
  • Thursday Mixed Night Competition – 9 July
  • Tuesday Ladies Competition – 21 July
  • Thursday Ladies Competition – 23 July
  • Junior Competition – 25 July

These competitions will be conducted under the ‘normal’ rules and formats.

Each Competition Secretary will provide more detailed information about these competitions separately.

Cleaning and Hygiene

Enclosed with this letter is a copy of Tennis Australia Hygiene Advice which should always also be followed. Additionally, we have contracted extra cleaning of the amenities block prior to all Tennis Macarthur Competitions and this will continue indefinitely.

These past few months have been challenging times for our community but, with your support, our Association will be able to re-emerge from this in a strong position. Please show your support by getting your teams registered as soon as possible (other than Tuesday Night as above).

On a final note, I would like to remind you that the Inter District Competition will be going ahead this year, with the start date of all cups pushed back to 26 July 2020. Our Association has been the champion Association of this prestigious Competition for 14 consecutive years, and there is no reason why we can’t do that again this year. Look out for an email which will include information on how to be a part of our team.

Yours in tennis,
Craig Barrett

Resumption of Tennis Macarthur Operations

Issued 22 May 2020

Dear Members,

Our Council of Management made the difficult decision in March to suspend all of our operations indefinitely. While this was an incredibly difficult decision to make, it was the right decision and it has contributed to slowing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

As you would know, the NSW State Government began easing restrictions on 15 May 2020, and as a result some changes may be made to sport and recreation in our community. To support the tennis community returning to the court Tennis NSW has released advice detailing what a return to tennis looks like while adhering to the public health orders.

As always, our priority is the health and wellbeing of our volunteers, members, families and the wider community, so we have taken some time to ensure these priorities are upheld as we return to tennis.

I am pleased to inform you that we will be resuming operations on 2 June 2020 however, with some significant changes. It is simply not possible for us to resume our programs as we know them, not yet. So, we are introducing some temporary programs to enable you to get back on the court in safe way (details are enclosed). Additionally, there are health guidelines that all participants must adhere to.

A Member of our Council of Management will always be on the premise (until further notice), to ensure that the guidelines detailed herewith, are observed. Members who are found to not observe these guidelines will be jeopardising their membership with Tennis Macarthur but more importantly putting the health of our community at risk.

Finally, I’d like to thank all of our Members for your support, patience and cooperation during this difficult time. More than ever we need your support, to ensure that our sport re-emerges from this, so I hope to see you back on the courts (from a distance).

Yours in tennis,
Craig Barrett

Update regarding the suspension of Tennis Macarthur operations

Issued 15 May 2020

Following the easing of some restrictions by the NSW State Government, Tennis Macarthur is currently reviewing its position in relation to its operations being suspended.

Due to the complex nature of the situation, we are consulting with Wests Macarthur and Tennis NSW and intend to provide a more detailed update on 22 May 2020.

Thank you for your patience.

Suspension of Tennis Macarthur Competitions due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Issued 18 March 2020

Effective immediately Tennis Macarthur is suspending all its sanctioned community programs until further notice. This decision applies to the following programs:

  • Tuesday Ladies Midweek
  • Tuesday Night Men’s Doubles
  • Wednesday Night Singles Match Play
  • Open Court Session
  • Thursday Ladies Midweek
  • Thursday Night Mixed
  • Saturday Morning Junior Competition
  • Saturday Morning Hot Shots Match Play
  • Saturday Afternoon Doubles

This decision has been made in the interest of the health and wellbeing of our volunteers, members, families and the broader community as a priority. As our programs are not essential and are held for our Members recreation and enjoyment this was considered an appropriate measure to avoid bringing people together, in order to help contain the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). In the case of our Junior and Hot Shots programs for example, this decision is consistent with Government mandates to suspend all inter-school sports activities.

We acknowledge that this will cause some logistical challenges when we are able to resume our programs, and that many programs are in progress where fees have been paid. As there is no way to predict when we will be able to resume, we are not able to provide any further information in relation to this other than to say our intention is for no one to be financially disadvantaged by this decision.

While the above programs have been suspended, Wests Tennis Club is still operating as usual.

As this is a fast-changing situation, this decision will be reviewed weekly. We understand this decision may cause some inconvenience, however we emphasise our most important objective is ensuring our community remains healthy, and the risk of the virus spreading is minimised during this difficult and uncertain time.

We will continue to keep you updated and thank you for your cooperation.

Regards,
Craig Barrett

Postponement of Tennis Macarthur Competitions due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Issued 15 March 2020

Effective immediately Tennis Macarthur are postponing all competitions and tournaments for the next seven (7) days until 22 March 2020. This decision will be reviewed in the coming days.

This decision is based on the move by Tennis Australia to postpone all sanctioned tournaments, competitions and events to avoid large gatherings of people in attempt to contain the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and minimise the inevitable strain on our healthcare system.

We realise this may cause inconvenience in the short-term however, our objective is ensuring our community remains healthy and strong.

We will continue to keep you updated and thank you for your cooperation during this difficult time for all of us.

Craig Barrett
